Kristin - Moonlit
I love the repeating diamond pattern of Traci's sketch. I wanted to create an ombre effect with my diamonds so I punched a bunch of squares from an ombre paper in the Moonlit collection. I kept the background paper white so the ombre color would really stand out. I then used a scoring board to score the diamonds in a criss-crossing pattern so that I could create depth and dimension by bending up the diamonds. I finished the layout by adding florals, greenery, and a title from the collection!
Melinda - Love Potion
Today’s sketch pushed me in a “here is a starting off point” direction rather than a more obvious “following a sketch” direction. I started the background with the diamond shaped pattern papers in a smaller scale (not the entire background) in 3 places with mixed media; specifically gold paste, in the areas of embellishment. Building my layers from there I added some paints and splatter in the same areas and then topped off with all of the main design elements in the sketch starting with my photo and florals etc from the “Love Potion” collection.
I’ve said it a bunch of times before but I love sketches and I love how they can be used so many different ways to inspire a new scrapbook page!
Hanna - Sunkissed
I know it’s still spring but when I saw this sketch with the repeated diamond shapes and then went hunting through my stash, this Summer kit caught my eye. And especially the umbrellas in Sunkissed. So I chose to use these and layer them on top of the diamonds.
I picked this photo of my niece which complements the colors. I mixed the vellum flowers with acrylic and realistic ones, which gives it more dimension bevause of the different textures. I wanted to do a different title and this ticket was perfect. A ticket to Summer!
Bruna - Story Foundations: Routines
When I saw the sketch, I remembered my hexagon hole punch, which would fit well with the sketch's concept. I adapted it to a 6x8 size on a double page and put the card on one side and the photo on the other. I used the Story Foundations: Routines collections and some elements from Brighter Days, love those lively colors.
Ana - Love Potion
Just in case I haven’t said this enough - I really love sketches! They make scrapbooking so much easier, take away the pressure, and somehow always turn out just how I want (or even better). For this Sunday’s Sketchy Sunday, I created a 12x12 layout documenting our Valentine’s Day getaway to Bahrain. I know, I know… a little late but to be fair, I still have a lot more memories (which are a lot more late too!) to catch up on!
For this layout, I used Traci’s Love Potion collection and I absolutely loved working with it. It was the perfect fit for this Valentine’s memory.
And also, just in case I haven’t said it enough, paper stitching (alongside sketches and mixed media) is super therapeutic for me. I genuinely enjoyed hand sewing through this layout while binge-watching The Blacklist. Not a very Valentine’s-themed series, but hey… that’s me!
I love how this collection is filled with pinks and reds, it really captures the Valentine’s vibe. And since pink is my favorite, it was an easy choice to use pink thread for the stitching too. And just because it’s the day of love, I added some gem stickers for a little extra sparkle.
The florals, bead alphas, and stickers? Love, love, love them too!
