Grid layout with a POP Layout with Amy

Sometimes a scrapbook page comes together because of the story - this photo of my son taking photos on a recent hike is one of those stories! This layout is a slightly different take on a grid layout. Instead of a pocket style page, I used Simple Scrapper template (#641) designed by Lynnette Penacho which combines a large 6x12 photo with a clean grid of numbered circles that hold the journaling in a unique and eye-catching way.

The large photo on the left side of the page immediately draws your attention. Using an oversized photo creates an impact without competing with too many embellishments. In this case, a large photo of my son taking photos set the theme for the entire page.

The other side of the page holds all the color, embellishments and journaling. Instead of placing all of the journaling into one traditional block of text, each number contains a small thought, observation, or memory from the day. This was a nice way to break up the journaling into bite-sized thoughts I was having about this moment in time.

I loved using the numbered journaling for this scrapbook page because it naturally guides the reader through the story while also becoming part of the design itself. The circles add repetition and balance to the page, helping the layout feel cohesive without needing a lot of extra decoration.

Techniques like this are a great reminder that journaling does not always have to be long and in-depth in order to capture a story or an important moment.
