Create Your Own Photo Challenge Mini Book using Story Foundations: Brighter Days with Noemi
Hi! I’m so excited to share this project that was inspired by the arrival of spring. I used the Brighter days collection to match the feeling of the season: now that the days are filled with sunshine, it makes you want to go out for a walk. That’s how I came up with a spring challenge for myself, where I want to photograph and document the things I come across during my walks.
I created this mini album to document the little gifts that spring brings us so let’s get started with the tutorial.
My mini album has 3 pages measuring 8x5 inches, printed double-sided and folded in half. The cover is slightly larger, an extra eighth of an inch on each side is enough.
Next, I folded the cover in half and marked the center with a pencil, which would be 2.5 inches, then marked one inch up and one inch down. I used the cover as a template to punch my three pages at the same distance.
This binding is very simple. Once all the pages are punched, insert the needle through the middle hole from the inside of the album, leaving a long enough tail to tie at the end. As a tip, your thread should be about three times the height of your project, so I used a 15-inch thread. Then, insert the needle back through the top hole from the outside to the inside, return to the center, go down to the bottom hole, and finish with a double knot. I like to add a drop of glue on the knot for extra reinforcement.
To give it a more playful touch, I splattered some watercolor drops on each page using the tone on tone technique and rounded the corners to give the album that passport look.
Here are the 10 categories I’ll be using for my photo challenge:
Once the watercolor drops were dry, I added Polaroid style placeholders for each category and decorated each page using the same tone on tone technique again. I kept the decoration simple because I wanted to highlight the colorful papers, which I arranged in a rainbow order and I’m sure the photos will add even more color and detail to each page.
