Mix It Up Monday: Midnight Apothecary + Jack & Skelly

Hello and welcome to the Thirty-Seventh edition of our fun series: Mix It Up Monday! We love to show you how easy it is to mix and match TRD collections to create something new and wonderful!

This month, we’re combining the brand new dark & gothic Midnight Apothecary collection with the fun and vintage Jack & Skelly collection! I LOVE to challenge the team and at first glance these two look like they’re going to be hard to mix, but the team made magic once again!

I love to mix collections and for this project I started with my photo and chose the papers and elements to match it, using both purple and orange since I had these colors in my photo. Jack & Skelly has such cute and fun elements that I had a blast picking them! And the beautiful purple paper from Midnight Apothecary brings a lot of interest to my project!

I decided to combine these two awesome collections for a page in my October Daily that focused on my Pumpkin Mug.  I am LOVING the vibe of Midnight Apothecary but decided I wanted to bring in some orange for this page … so I turned to Jack and Skelly for my papers (although that gorgeous distressed stripe around the very edge is Midnight Apothecary!)

For my embellishments I mainly worked with Midnight Apothecary - bringing in a touch of that dark Teal and mainly blacks and whites.

The two collections blend so seamlessly and it is a great way of bringing in a hit of orange to your spooky projects this season!

One of my favorite things to do is mix kits. It’s a great way to freshen up something older in your stash and to use kits you may have forgotten about. This week I combined Traci’s Midnight Apothecary with Jack and Skelly. The template I used was from Fiddle Dee Dee. I pulled out the papers from Midnight Apothecary that included mostly black tones and pulled a few out from Jack and Skelly that I liked. The papers were easy to mix because most of the Jack and Skelly papers already had black in them. Next I just pulled out elements from Midnight that were black like the bats, spiders, webs, and black flowers because I wanted to keep my layout black, orange and white. For the stars on my layout I extracted the skulls Traci had on one of the frames from Jack and Skelly since they were a cute complement to the skeleton  hoodie Charlotte is wearing in her photos. The Happy Halloween scatter was too wide to fit in the space I wanted it to go without it being super tiny, so I cut it apart and placed the two words on top of each other instead of side by side. I finished it off with some word strips from each collection. I really love how it turned out!

Mixing the Midnight Apothecary collection with the Jack and Skelly collection was a fun challenge this month. For my layout I decided to focus on the black and white elements from the two collections. I chose the one of the black and white papers, frames, spiders and florals from the Jack and Skelly collection. Then from the Midnight Apothecary I chose the moon paper printed on vellum, spider webs, trees and the rich burgundy pattern paper and tile. I adore how this layout came up together with the mixed media on my background and all the fun elements with just a hint of color.
