Using Small Embellishments to Create a BIG Impact with Karidan

One of my favorite ways to make a scrapbook page feel cohesive is to repeat small images from scrapbooking kits even stamp sets. Those little stamps/images I think are the most unused elements! Using one of my favorite kits that Traci has designed the Equinox Kit, I went through and there were outline leaves and sure you can make clusters out of them BUT what about lining them all up down the edge, turning down the opacity of them and BANG you have a beautiful design element! 

For this layout, I wanted to document a fun fall day at Debuck’s Family Farm. The colorful pumpkins, warm orange tones, and playful patterns from the kit were perfect for telling this story.

Find Those Little Details

When you’re looking through a digital kit, don’t overlook the small elements! Tiny flowers, leaves, stars, labels, or other decorative images can be used in so many ways.

I used the small floral and foliage elements from the kit to create a repeating pattern along the right side of my page. Instead of using one large embellishment, I layered several smaller images to create a delicate, continuous design that helps fill the empty space.

Create Balance With Repetition

Repeating an element is a great way to guide the eye across your layout. When the same image appears in different places, it creates a visual connection between those areas and helps the page feel more intentional.

You can repeat elements in a few different ways:

• Use the same image in multiple clusters.

• Rotate or flip an element to create variety.

• Change the size slightly to keep the design from feeling too uniform.

• Repeat a color or pattern throughout the page.

Make the Most of Your Kits

One of the best things about digital scrapbooking is that you can use the same element as many times as you want! You don’t have to save that favorite flower or leaf for just one spot.

Next time you’re creating a layout, take a second look at the smaller images in your kit. Try repeating one throughout your page and see how it changes the overall design.

Sometimes the smallest details make the biggest difference!
