Hand Stitching for Texture with Kristin

Sometimes it is the little details that make a scrapbook layout feel extra special. Handstitching is one of my favorite ways to add texture and it can really make a huge impact on a layout.

I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out a honeycomb cut file stitching pattern that I purchased from Paige Taylor Evans onto plain white cardstock.  Next, I stitched the cut file using a chain stitch in different yellow DMC embroidery threads.

I wanted the handstitching to be front and center on this layout.  In order to achieve this, I opted to cut hexagons, using my Cricut Maker, out of different pattern papers from Traci’s Equinox collection.  Next, I placed these in the center of each of the stitched hexagons, trying to alternate patterns and colors.

I placed my photographs in the lower right part of the layout so that the handstitching and pattern paper would remain prominent on the layout.  To draw your eyes back to the photographs, I added sunflowers and bees from the collection around the photographs.

To complete the layout, I added the title “Bee You” using the alphas from the collection.

I love that handstitching doesn’t have to be perfect, it adds to the charm of a layout.  It is a beautiful detail that adds texture and dimension.  It may take a little extra time, but those handstitched details are worth it!
