Breaking Out of the Seasonal Scrapbooking Box with Amy

I absolutely love the colors in the Amber Glow kit, and I happen to have a TON of fall photos on my phone right now, but I wanted to use the kit outside its intended theme of obvious autumn imagery. That’s when I started thinking of our backpacking trip this summer in the beautiful White Mountains of New Hampshire! We had the opportunity to witness a gorgeous sunrise over the mountains - a first for all of us. This kit has some great natural colors with the bright pops of yellows & orange that brought my page together perfectly!

A few tips for making Amber Glow work beyond autumn:

  1. Let the Colors Do the Work - Pair the softer colors with beach pictures, lean into the greens for outdoor adventures or use the orange tones to highlight warm, sunny images.

  2. Let Your Photos Lead - Start with your photographs and choose the papers and embellishments that complement their colors. You may find that Amber Glow works for a story you wouldn't have initially considered.

  3. Go Monochromatic - Choose papers and embellishments in similar shades to create a cohesive layout. A page built around warm oranges or earthy greens can feel intentional without feeling seasonal.

  4. Use Patterned Papers as Borders - If a paper feels too seasonal to use as a full background, cut a narrow strip to anchor the bottom of the page or frame a photo.

  5. Mix in other collections - Pair Amber Glow with a more summery, travel-themed, or floral kit when you need a few extra elements to reinforce your story.

Some story ideas:

  1. The bounty of fall

  2. Apple/Pumpkin picking

  3. Nature walks

  4. Mushroom hunting/foraging

  5. Fall camping

  6. A friendship story

  7. A coffee date or book club meeting

  8. Your happy place/cozy spot at home

  9. Pets snuggled on the couch

  10. Fall traditions

  11. A difficult story

  12. Personal growth story

  13. Favorite family recipe

  14. Rediscovering your wild side

  15. Slow mornings

Some stories can use the seasonal elements exactly as intended, while others will work best by emphasizing the papers, alphas, and more versatile embellishments. A themed kit doesn't have to dictate the story you tell. Sometimes all it takes is a different paper choice, a smaller embellishment cluster, or a mix of elements from another collection to make a seasonal kit feel perfect for a page about something completely different.
