December Daily 2022: Day 3 and 4

Welcome to Day 3 and 4 of December Daily! I don’t normally like designing two pages together, but after designing story 3, it became pretty apparent that day 4 needed to be a simple story and large photo to compliment day 3’s transparency, so I ended up creating both!

Day Three

Day three’s story is decorating the Christmas tree in our new home. I don’t know about you, but I always get pretty crappy photos of the actual decorating, so I wanted to keep them small and emphasize the large tree photo instead

I started out day 3 using the fun transparency page I designed with my All Is Calm collection as part of my Stress-Free December Daily Prep Day 3 Video and the back side of the full-page advent calendar I created for Day Two. The small squares (both front and back) were perfect for those smaller photos of the kids decorating that I wanted to use, plus I could include 5 photos on one page!

I ended up deconstructing the transparency page a bit in the process of creating and creating more points on the page that were see-through. I also added journaling blocks to the squares (one on the front and one on the back) and replaced two of the patterned paper circles with two circles from the Our Happy Place Veneer from Color Cast Designs. I love the variation on texture it gives while still sticking to the original design.

My number today is actually a gold-foiled number using the Candy Coated Christmas December Days Stamps from last year that I had printed and foiled with my laminator! You can see the tutorial on Instagram here.

On the coordinating full size spread, I kept the composition fairly simple with a large photo of our tree all lit up, stickers and papers from the All Is Calm collection and more veneer in the form of hearts from Color Cast Designs. I brought two patterned paper circles to this side of the spread both as a way to incorporate the design from the transparency over to the layout but also to create “anchor points” for more embellishing.

Day Four

After I had designed Day 3, I knew I needed to work out Day 4 while I was working on Day 3 so that I could make sure the stories not only went together, but the spread did as well. I decided to keep it simple and print out this photo of a wreath I made for $10 when all the $40+ ones in the store were ugly.

I enlarged the photo to be the size of the back side of the NEXT story I was going to tell (which was originally going to be day 4) and made sure that the background was a nice stark white to interact nicely with the transparency on day 3.

I kept it simple and used Crate Paper Mittens & Mistletoe stickers + a Vicki Boutin Evergreen & Holly chipboard “4” both from the CTK Jingle All The Way Kit and then wrote directly on the photo and doodled my heart out in the white space, for fun.

I normally don’t “let” myself get that messy on my pages so it was fun and freeing knowing I could just re-print the photo if needed.
