Challenge: How Many Woodgrains can you Fit on One Page?
Hi friends, do I have a super fun challenge for you! Today we are creating with all the fabulous woodgrains in the Traci Reed Designs collections! There are so many beautiful wood grains, including patterned papers, alphabets, backgrounds, embellishments, that I know you will love this challenge This is my layout I will be creating to showcase some of these amazing woodgrains!
Of course I want to point out all of the woodgrain elements in this layout (including my photo!) but first let me share a list of the collections I found that feature woodgrain papers and embellishments (not intended to be exhaustive!)
I am sure there are some that I missed, but this is where I started at to create my layout, and I know you will love adding these collections to your digital stash!
For my layout, I felt like this would be a great opportunity to document our beautiful staircase in our new home. And you guessed it, the staircase is very woodgrain so it sets the perfect tone for all of the papers and embellishments I am hoping to add. For my background, I decided to bring in a lot of color with the colorful woodgrains from Story Foundations: Routines. I love these colors! I created a simple strip with a square of each color in Photoshop and then layered four of those strips behind the main background woodgrain.
As a second layer to the background, I created a bracket for the grey woodgrain. The bracket shape is a copy of the bracket title spot, I’ve simply enlarged it and clipped the woodgrain paper to it. I also cut it in half because I only wanted it on the bottom half of the layout. For the top of the background I’ve added these gorgeous mixed media elements with the darling hearts, and notice how the brown hearts happen to be woodgrain! As a final happy element on the background, I also added the pink sequins. Those sequins originally have leaf embellishments too, but they blended in with the woodgrain so I erased them.
To divide the top from the bottom, and also to ground the photo on the page, I also added ribbons across the page. They are stitched together digitally, which adds the perfect bit of texture without having to thread a machine. Notice that the stripe ribbon has a little brown running through it, and even though that is not technically woodgrain, it could be seen as such!
For my title, I used a woodgrain journal spot It has been altered just a bit – the original has flowers on one corner, but I already knew I was going to use larger florals so I copy and pasted half of the label, flipped it, and merged it to have a label with no flowers. The alphabets are some of my very favorites, because they are woodgrain and they come in blue, brown, green and red!
The rest of the layout was simply a matter of bringing in fun embellishments that help bring this story to life. I particularly love seeing flowers against a rustic woodgrain, so that is what I did. Notice how the colors in the embellishments tie in with the colors in the woodgrain strips going around the page! It’s kismet!
