Theme Thursday - Summer's End

With summer comes so many opportunities for scrapbooking that when we start transitioning into fall and back to school, it can feel like our storytelling sputters a bit, so the team has come up with 5 different prompts for you today for telling those transitory stories!

Cathy - Sunkissed

As my kids start to get ready to go back to school, it’s a sure sign that Summer is ending. Living in the Northern part of the continent in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, it’s almost as if we grieve the end of Summer. “Winter is Coming” is no joke around these parts. When thinking about this project and theme, there was no doubt that I wanted to highlight some of those perfect summer moments. The TRD Sunkissed collection included a perfect journaling card in the Traveller’s Notebook that helped prompt me to get my story told. I like to use typed journaling and as such, I used Photoshop to type the text and then printed the card on my printer. Love how this turned out but oh so sad that Summer is ending!

Caroline - Harvest Moon

When I first thought about my project for this theme I had every intention of using up my scraps from Traci‘s Sunkissed collection but when I chose the photos and the story that I wanted to tell I was immediately drawn towards the gorgeous Harvest Moon collection.

I can’t believe how quickly summer has gone this year. My daughter had an extra long summer holiday because of her exam leave but somehow the weeks have just flown by and all of my intentions and plans just haven’t happened.

Rather than being really really down about this I’m using it as a really good lesson to stay present and to change my perspective - to make every moment count.

Once I printed the photos to remind me of this lesson I looked in my files to find papers from Harvest Moon that matched the colours and printed those out. Knowing that I wanted a few layers I went for more patterns than I would probably need so I had some choices.

Next I looked through the journal cards to find one for a subtitle and one to capture my story on.

I didn’t have many die cuts left from the sticker pack so ended up printing all of those out again. I fussy cut out just the ones that I wanted for this project to save time.

Next it was a simple case of layering up the papers that I wanted so that I had a double page spread for my 6 x 8 story album. I chose to place the photos and card
so that they ran across the double page spread. It meant t
I had to cut that sentiment card in half but I prefer the look rather than having a gap as I really wanted that continuous flow of images.

I’m really happy with the way this project turned out. This has to be one of my favourite of Traci’s collections and I haven’t actually used it very much so I’m certainly going to use it this autumn for lots of gorgeous earthy autumn stories!

Erika - Sunkissed

The end of summer is always a bit bittersweet. I try to capture all the best bits so I can look at them later. Right now, nothing's more quintessentially summer like swim class. The Sunkissed collection was the perfect choice to complement my photos and highlight all the summer vibes!

Stephanie - Sunkissed

My family and I managed to get together once more before summer ended. The kids enjoyed the pool and a good water balloon fight. I knew Sunkissed was the perfect collection to document this story. I love including the journaling cards in my Traveler's notebook layouts. I did just that on the left side along with my title.

I backed my photos with the ombre pattern paper and finished off the right side with a few stickers. I used the same multi-color tab by my photos and stamped some sentiments in black, which fit the theme. I love how fast layouts whip up in my Traveler's notebooks, especially when I don't have a lot of time to create these days.

Trish - School Daze + Filled With Intention

We have already started our school year here, which, to me, marks the end of summer. The start of school means the start of never-ending parent pick up lines. Thankfully, I can go in the shorter preschool line for another year, but even then it still gives me quite a bit of quiet free time for reading. (Lets be honest here, I do a lot of not quiet reading also, but that isn't the point.) For this page I juxtaposed a photo of me reading outside while standing in the kiddie pool while kids play with a photo from this week reading in the pick up line. I combined School Daze and Filled With Intention as the two kits just compliment each other beautifully.
