50 Story Prompts for Documenting Summer Days in July!

July is all about summer days, slower schedules, and making the most of the moments that fill this season. From backyard adventures and pool days to family gatherings, summer traditions, and the little routines that make this time of year feel different, there are so many stories waiting to be captured.

That’s the inspiration behind this month’s Story Foundations prompt list. The July edition includes 50 story and photo prompts designed to help you document all the pieces of summer, from the big highlights to the everyday moments you might otherwise forget. There’s no need to follow them in order or complete one every day. Think of them as a collection of ideas to pull from whenever you need a little creative spark.

Some prompts focus on classic summer memories like vacations, celebrations, outdoor activities, and seasonal favorites. Others look at the smaller details that make summer feel like summer: favorite foods, warm evenings, simple routines, and the moments that happen in between the plans.

The goal is to help you capture the full story of the season, not just the biggest events. The traditions you repeat every year, the things you look forward to, the people you spend time with, and the little snapshots of everyday life all become part of the memories you’ll want to revisit later.

Because summer is made up of more than just a few big moments. It’s the ordinary days, the spontaneous adventures, and the details that remind you exactly what this season felt like.

Shayla - “A Photo Taken Late At Night” using the Moonlit Collection

When I saw the “A Photo Taken Late At Night” prompt for this month, I knew two things for sure: I’d be using a photo of a summer sunset and the Moonlit collection.

I chose a photo taken over the lake on a recent camping trip which has lots of orange, yellow, and blue. The patio lanterns and lights are just the cutest and I had to find a way to incorporate them into my layout. Making a mini scene on my scrapbook layouts is one of my favourite ways to showcase a single photo like this one.

Ophie - “A Detail You Noticed Outside” using the Story Foundations: Destinations Collection

I picked the prompt to show a photo about boxing a detail outside. I am a photographer so this prompt fit something I love to do. The photo I picked was taken after I walked across the Brooklyn bridge early in the morning. I noticed that there was a sign on the ground at the end of the bridge signaling that I was now in Brooklyn. What a unique spot for a sign so I captured the moment. I paired the photo with Traci's Story Foundations: Destination kit and intentionally created a simpler page so the focus is on the photo. Here is my page.

Hanna - “A Place that Felt Quiet” using the Ex Libris Galaxias collection

We scrap the big moments in life with amazing memories. But we also need to treasure the small moments. The candid and unplanned moments. Those can be so special too. My bestie her son woke up SUPER early during the weekend, which was unscheduled. But this little moment together is worthy of a scrapped page too. So I documented it with a template with clocks (also because he is obsessed with them) and then the Ex Libris Galaxias collection by Traci. It fits the vibe, the colors are perfect and loving the ellies such as the moon and star.
