Fun And Easy Ways to add Dimension and Texture to your Hybrid Layouts
Hello, it’s Noemi on the blog! Have you ever come across a layout and simply wanted to keep looking at it, finding yourself surprised as you discover all the little details that make it unique? I want to share some of my tricks for adding that little “something, something” to my projects and making them more fun and interesting.
First, and a must for me: using textured background paper. It’s the simplest way to add a fancier touch to our projects.
Another must-have is using foam dots to create dimension. They really do make a difference! Play around with the heights of different elements and you’ll immediately notice the magic.
Paper itself gives us so many options for creating texture. Try printing your collections on different types of paper: smooth, textured, vellum… Adding variety to your projects will make them much more interesting. One technique I use in almost all my projects is tearing the paper, either with the edge of my scissors or with my hands. It always gives my backgrounds that extra touch of interest.
You can also create volume and add interest by folding and shaping your die cuts a little. I always use this technique for flowers, leaves, and butterfly wings because it adds so much movement and dynamism to the composition.
Bring in other materials! Include washi tape, staples, ribbons, buttons, and anything else you can think of! These elements will add a fun and original touch to your projects.
Want to take it above and beyond? Add some mixed media! For me, adding a few watercolor splatters and drops makes the design feel complete. Depending on the design, I sometimes use watercolors in the same colors to tie everything together, black splatters to create contrast, or gold drops when I want something extra special.
And finally, since these are the stars of this layout, include some 3D elements! I think the origami butterflies add such a fun and unique touch. I added a few foam dots underneath their wings to help them keep their shape and volume, and I think the effect is fantastic.
Golden Days is here to celebrate everything we love about autumn, with a fresh and colorful take on the season! From falling leaves and pumpkin patches to apple picking, cozy sweaters, good books, and crisp autumn days, this collection captures all those little moments that make fall feel so special.
Rather than leaning into the traditional rustic or farmhouse side of fall, Golden Days brings a brighter palette to the season with warm oranges and golds mixed with unexpected greens, soft aqua, rich reds, and cozy browns. The result is a collection that feels unmistakably autumn while still fitting right in with the colorful Story Foundations palette.
Whether you're documenting a trip to the pumpkin patch, the first signs of cooler weather, back-to-school memories, afternoons spent apple picking, or simply the everyday moments that happen during your favorite season, Golden Days has plenty to help tell those stories. And yes, whether you're team apples or team pumpkins, you don't have to choose. This collection has room for both!
Like all Story Foundations chapters, Golden Days is designed to work beautifully on its own while also coordinating with the rest of the series. Mix and match papers, cards, stickers, and embellishments across collections to create pages that tell your stories your way.
