Midnight Apothecary - A Punk Rock Dream!

Hello everyone! Today I’m going to walk you through my process for creating this non-Halloween themed layout using the Midnight Apothecary collection.

I drew my inspiration for this layout from the fantastic moon and branches paper. My pictures are from a Hotel Mira concert I went to with some friends in January. One of the band’s songs is “Dancing With The Moonlight” and in January where I live, there’s definitely no leaves on the trees so I figured this paper was a perfect background. Since this is not a Halloween layout, I laid out my photo mats to cover up the majority of the bats on the paper. My embellishments are going to cover any that remain.

Since this is a heavily Halloween themed collection, my next challenge was choosing enough embellishments from the digital kit and sticker packs to make my layout feel complete but steering clear of anything directly Halloween.

All of the Titles in the collection have a ‘scary’ or ‘magical’ reference to them so I tried to see if there were words that I could combine together to create a relevant title for my layout. I decided to use the ‘An Enchanted Evening’ and ‘Spooky Vibes’ Titles together with the collection’s Alpha to create my layered title. I used the mask tool in my design program to hide the parts of the titles that I didn’t need.

Because of the blue hue to my concert pictures and the show’s lights, I chose to really focus on the teal, green, and purple embellishments. How punk rock do these blue and purple rose stickers feel?! They were an absolute yes to use. I used some journaling tags and cropped one of the journaling cards that used the word ‘Moonlight’ to complete the reference to the Hotel Mira song title. I also tucked in a purple journal tag with a Halloween reference that is covered, so it still fits with my theme.

My final touches included adding the teal stars and using the gold star scatter and black mesh along with some enamel dots and staples from my stash. Then I added the mixed media to the white background and this concert layout is complete! A dark moody, punk rock vibe with no references to Halloween.

I hope this post helps inspire you to stretch the Midnight Apothecary collection just a little bit farther than the originally intended theme. Enjoy your creativity!
