Creating with Festive Paper Shapes with Amy
I know everyone is deep into their holiday storytelling projects right now, so this week I’m sharing three creative techniques to help you use your festive papers in fun, new ways! Whether you’re documenting daily memories or crafting special layouts throughout the season, these ideas will help your pages shine.
All three layouts were created with the gorgeous Festive kit by Traci Reed Designs paired with templates by Lynnette Penacho Jackman from the Simple Scrapper membership (806,807 & 808).
For my first layout, I used 2 rows of hexagon shapes featuring numbers counting down from 10 to 1 to mimic the fun countdown feel of the advent calendars. Instead of using full blocks of patterned paper, I used it as the background for the numbers to create a playful, story-driven design. The Festive kit’s bright colors give the background shapes so much personality and the numbers create an instant visual theme that ties directly into the story!
My second layout uses a background of heart shapes split into different sectioned pieces. Repeating shapes with varied patterned papers adds rhythm to the layout while keeping everything cohesive. Mixing a bold red on one side and a lighter mint or holly print on the other keeps each heart visually interesting without stealing the spotlight from the photo. This is also a great layout to try if you are trying to use up some paper scraps!!
My third layout uses a full patchwork background, mixing holiday papers into a quilt-style grid that fills the entire page. This is a great technique when you want to showcase LOTS of patterns without overwhelming the eye.
The Festive kit papers make this layout POP! A quilted background gives the page instant coziness and nostalgia, perfect for any Holiday Tradition page!
I hope these ideas spark inspiration as you continue your holiday crafting journey! Happy creating!
