Baking Up Creativity with the Candy Coated Christmas Collection
There is something comforting about baking during the holidays--the familiar smells, the mess on the counter, and the memories made with your loved ones. For this layout, I wanted to capture that creative energy by combining a baking theme with playful mixed media details.
I started with a neutral white cardstock and used the peppermint stencil from the Candy Coated Christmas collection to add four inked peppermint swirls to the center of the cardstock. I faded the ink as I worked outwards to give it a more distressed look. I then added some ink splatters to create a slightly messy feel to the mixed media, similar to how baking can be! I alternated the photographs with the peppermint-inked areas.
To tie in the baking theme, I chose the stickers and pieces from the Candy Coated Christmas collection that were baking related and created two clusters on opposite corners of the layout. I then added the striped paper at the top and bottom with some baking themed ephemera to give the layout a more finished look. I added the peppermint and candy garland to the center of the layout to draw your eye back towards the photographs. To complete the layout, I sprinkled acrylic peppermint confetti from my stash around the page.
This layout is a reminder that creativity doesn’t have to be perfect! Much like baking, it’s about enjoying the process, embracing the mess, and having fun along the way. I hope you’ll find your own creative recipe by combining mixed media into your layouts!
