Everyday Inspiration: Inspired by Book Covers with Vanessa

On days when my scrappy mojo is lacking, I often look at the things around me for scrappy inspiration. For my project today I am using the new Amber Glow collection, and I chose a book cover as inspiration for my layout. As I was searching through my photos, I found a photo of me drinking coffee and reading a book. I knew the photo worked with this collection perfectly and when I looked at the book cover, I decided to use the cover as inspiration for creating my layout.

The biggest inspiration that I took from the cover was the falling gold leaves. I loved the idea of creating a background using paper and leaves from the digital collection to mimic the falling leaves. Using photoshop elements I layered the pattern papers and added leaves to the background. To add depth, I added drop shadows and printed the completed background. Next, I added some gold spatters to mirror the gold on the cover. With my background complete I wanted to play up the feeling of falling leaves even more by taking the leaves from the sticker sheet and painting the edges with gold paint and then adding them to the background. This added touch really made the layout come to life.

Once the photo was matted and in place all that was left were the embellishments and a title to finish the page. I kept the embellishments minimal, and I love the result.

I hope the next time you need some scrappy inspiration you will look at what you have around you for inspiration. Be sure to tag #TRDDesigns and show us what you were inspired to create we would love to see it.
