6 Different Ways to Approach Scrapbooking the Plot Twists in Life!

We are full steam ahead into Story Foundations: Plot Twists release weekend and I am simply loving all the beautiful pages I’ve seen with this collection. I think there are so many ways to scrapbook the moments that don’t got according to plan with this collection that I wanted to gather up some inspiration from the team.

In that vein, here are 5 Team projects, and 1 ne project from myself that I think will give you 6 different outlooks on how to scrapbook the good and not-so-good Plot Twists in your life!

First, we have a digital 12x12 layout from Cheryl that tells the story of her struggle with chronic pain and the hoops she had to jump through to get a needed replacement surgery. Her photos speak to the pain she’s going through, but the embellishments and words she chose speak to hope and resilience, turning a tough time and a page about a hard subject into a hopeful layout. I love how she layered the rainbow paint over her text!

Next is a layout from Theresa that goes full-tilt into snark and frustration. Instead of the hopefulness of Cheryl’s layout, Theresa leans into the anger that she’s feeling in order to express some of that emotion and get it out on the page. Both forms of scrapbooking/journaling are equally valid and cathartic!

Next, Amy leans into the snark when scrapbooking about the recent winter storm, or “Snowicane” that hit the East Coast. She used the snarkiest set of journal cards to inject some levity into her page and release that pressure valve of frustration. I love a good snarky page myself!

Finally, this last team layout from Penny takes the concept of plot twists and turns it on its head into a story recounting when a plot twist went well for her son! I love the idea of finding the good in the wrenches that life throws in the gears sometimes - not all plot twists are bad!

I wanted to throw in this beautiful planner page from Ana to show off how the Story Foundations collections can be really stunning in other forms of creativity too! Ana had a bad week recently, but that didn’t stop her from making it beautiful in her planner!

This last page is from me and has an accompanying process video that will hopefully go up tomorrow. I mentioned recently that while designing this collection we had one of the worst weeks as a family that we’ve ever had and while I’ve chosen to keep the journaling of the worst of it private, I decided to pair the story of last week with my monthly faves spread so that there would be visual evidence that though the worst can happen, life is still good and a bad day (or week) doesn’t mean a bad life.

I also really love how if you take the snark out of the Plot Twists colleciton, the colors are actually really beautiful and fun on a happy page!
