Mix It Up Monday: Story Foundations: Milestones + Our Story Matters
For the 44th edition of Mix It Up Monday, the team is combining Story Foundations: Milestones with Our Story Matters and proving that collections don’t have to be identical to work beautifully together! While Milestones leans into celebrations and big life moments and Our Story Matters focuses more on everyday storytelling and memory keeping, the shared pops of color, playful patterns, versatile icons, and story-driven designs make them surprisingly perfect partners. The result is a mix that feels layered, personal, and full of life, with plenty of inspiration for stretching your stash in creative new ways!

Mixing two kits can sometimes be a bit difficult but with Traci’s kit I always find they mix pretty well! Which is one great thing about these foundation kits because there are so many GREAT basics in these kits like the pattern papers that allow you to use past kits you might have in your stash! Today we are using the Milestones kit along with the Our Story Matters kit… It was my first time working with the Our Story Matters and had a good time looking through it and I knew using the large word stickers to fill the opposite page of my picture! I love big type and it worked perfectly paired with the hearts from the Our Story matters and then paired with a basic from the milestones kit!

The overlap in colors in these kits was perfect, so I hand selected a few of these and picked elements that match. I loved the notebook papers and wanted to scrap this photo of my besties and me after we completed an escape room. Making it feel like a desk with papers and reviews. So I chose the stars and lots of labels and I made my own title from the titles in the Milestones kit. Celebrating our escape!

For Mix It Up Monday I love the challenge of mixing two different collections. I found this particular mix it up to be just a bit challenging, because I don’t have any celebratory events happening anymore. So what I’ve been documenting is just the little things in life.
For my background I used a 4x6 pattern card from the SF: Milestones collection. I knew I had to use the disco ball somehow someway. It was a must. I took this title from the Our Story Matters collection and laid it on top the disco ball. I love how this creates a title.
The frame is also from the same collection and I cut out the middle to layer my photo. I wanted more color to go with the title so I layered the color wheel from Our Story Matters behind the frame and added it to journal card from SF: Milestones. I added a label and word strip from the SF: Milestones off to the side. I felt that there needed to be a few more embellsiments so I added some hearts, paper clip, and the camera from Our Story Matters.

For my layout today, I wanted to celebrate my youngest kiddo’s preschool “graduation” — and the new Celebrations kit was perfect for that! Paired with the My Story Matters kit, its even better! My son loves reds, so I tried to use as many as possible from both kits — and of course, I had to do it in my “pocket page” style — it makes my memory keeping so easy right now when I just have to think about filling “smaller” pockets than traditional Project Life!

I created this layout by combining pieces from Traci Reed’s newest collection, Story Foundations: Milestones Bundle, with elements from Our Story Matters, and I absolutely loved how seamlessly the two collections worked together. For the page, I chose a recent photo from my sister’s 50th birthday dinner celebration. Because there were so many of us gathered together for the occasion, I decided to keep the photo large so that all the faces, expressions, and special memories could really shine.
I began building the layout by layering embellishments, word art, and decorative pieces from both collections directly around the photo. As the design started coming together, I realized I wanted even more depth and texture, so midway through the process I began incorporating background papers to help frame the page and tie all the colors together. That combination of layered papers and storytelling elements gave the layout such a warm, celebratory feel.
One of my favorite things about creating this page was discovering just how beautifully these collections complement one another. The colors, patterns, and embellishments blend effortlessly, making it easy to mix and match pieces while still maintaining a cohesive design. In the end, the layout feels full of life, love, and celebration which is exactly what I hoped to capture from such a meaningful milestone birthday.

Traci’s Our Story Matters and Story Foundations: Milestones kits both similar themes but a little bit different color scheme. Combining the two makes for a great page. I chose to document myself as the storyteller in our lives. I chose colors in both kits that would complement each other without overwhelming the page. I decided on design with a simple photo paired with cards and stickers to focus on the wordbits that describe my role. Here is my page.
