Mix It Up Monday: My Person + Rooted

Here at TRD, we’re trying something new! A lot of my collections coordinate really well with each other (by design) and you can maximize your product by mixing two or more collections together! Today we’re doing just that and mixing the brand new My Person collection with the Rooted collection because they have color palettes that mix so well together!

The team jumped at this challenge and came up with some amazing pages, check it out!

I knew that the combination of My Person and Rooted would be PERFECT for these photos of my husband and I on vacation. With the lush greenery + abundance of warm tones, I knew that the best way to combine the two kits was to lean heavily on Rooted for the papers and then add in My Person for the sentiments and embellishments.

Because I created a TON of DIY embellishments with Rooted last year, I had these fun envelopes that I decided would make a great base for the collage, with the photos and cards from the My Person collection sort of cascading out of them.

One issue I ran into a little was that the pinks/red in My Person are much cooler than the ones in Rooted, so I knew that if I wanted to incorporate that large pink journal card, I would need to bring some of that pink over to the right hand side too (via the two hearts) so that the journal card didn’t look like an outlier, mismatched on the page.

I ended up using way more of the Rooted embellishments than I thought I would, but the two collections combined together seamlessly for an adorable page!

At first it may feel quite daunting to mix two very different printable collections together - especially when they have a very different theme at their core. But this is what we do as scrapbookers... we take different pretty products that catch our eye and combine them to make something beautiful and meaningful. I follow a set path when I am working with more than one collection:

  • Decide on the theme of my project. This one is about the need to be grounded after a stressful time in my day job.

  • Decide what collections I want to combine. As this was a team project this step was kindly done for the Team by Traci (great choice on her part!)

  • Gather together supplies from the collections. I have pouches that hold pre-printed elements from Traci's collections so I gathered those first but then I grabbed my iPad so I could look through the files I have and decide what (if any) I wanted to print. This is one of my favourite things about working with printable collections - as many gorgeous products as I need - I just have to print them!!

  • Look through patterned papers and select 3-4 favourites. My intention with this project was to many use up papers from My Person with some accents from Rooted. It ended up going a very different way!! I fell back in love with those black and white line drawing papers from Rooted and decided to use those as my background! Working with neutrals from either collection is always a safe move - they can then match with any of the colours from the other collection!

  • Decide on a focal statement piece . I went with the quote card from Rooted

  • Pull out other papers and embellishments that match the colour scheme. Here I was no longer even thinking in terms of which collection was which. I was simply scrolling through my files and favouriting the ones I thought I may want to print. Then I was holding the elements I already had printed next to the iPad screen to see which matched together. I ended up using mostly papers from Rooted with a couple of pinks from My Person. I combined journalling blocks from both collections and my embellishments (those amazing hearts and rainbows) were from My Person.

  • Pull it all together with tiny embellishments. From I LOVE to add enamel dots in my colour scheme to pull a design together. On this project I used my new favourite obsession ... Nuvo drops to create my own.

I'd love to see what others in the scrapbook community make by mixing these two collections together. I am on Instagram as @carolinescreativehealing so tag me in your post so I can see.

When I think about the two collections, I think love. So, I decided to combine them for my kids’ yearly family pictures. I thought about being rooted in love with these people. I pulled heavily on the greens that are in both kits and neutral colors mainly with the pops of shades of red.

I was eager to blend these two collections together because I had these two photos just waiting to be scrapped. I wanted to document my persistence in growing avocado trees from the seed.

I pulled one project life card from each collection that worked with my layout. My background was the most challenging. I decided to go with the My Person collection. The heart pattern paper seemed like the perfect candidate to express my love for my plant babies. I pulled in stickers from both collections and did my best to mirror the placement of similar stickers on both sides.

I used a strip of the green water color cardstock to help soften the the transition between the pattern paper of hearts to the coral watercolor cardstock that will hold my title. I am so happy with how this traveler's notebook layout turned out.

As soon as I started seeing Traci’s peeks for My Person I just KNEW that I wanted to make a layout pairing it with Rooted. The color palettes of both just work so well together. While creating the layout I really focused on putting together the warm pinks and reds of the two collections, and the cooler blues and greens. The two collections paired together seemed absolutely perfectly custom made for the photos I was using, so it was easy to just blend them without even trying all that hard.
