Creating an Elegant Non-Halloween Layout with the Midnight Apothecary Collection!

Hello everyone!  Today, I am going to be sharing something that is very near and dear to my heart.  I love to create layouts using themed collections that aren’t themed.  Sometimes, we see a beautiful collection that has the right colors, but it’s the wrong theme.  I like to challenge myself to create with those.

October’s new release Midnight Apothecary is a beautifully curated collection featuring stunning and deeply colored patterns in jewel tones.  It is Halloween themed and my children are all grown up now so I have very few photos left that I could use to create a layout and none of them work well with these colors.  However, I have some photos from my very first military ball that are absolutely perfect with these colors.

I really fell in love with the roses patterned paper and knew that was the first piece that I was going to print.  After that I printed the stripe and a few of the patterned cards in 4x6 so I could create some flowers with a set of dies in my stash.

If you’d like to see this layout come together, I do have a process video on my channel:

I would love to provide you with a few more examples of this concept using layouts that I have done throughout my Design Team term.

My very first layout that I created with the I Voted collection for the November 2024 release was a Disney layout.

For the January release of Bookish, I created a layout about my new kitten.

For one of the Oldies But Goodies posts Equinox, using a fall collection, I created a layout about my kids earning medals at an AWANA ceremony.

I created a layout about my husband being my “Home” using the February 2025 new release, Love Potion

I created a baby layout using an older Valentine’s collection, Smitten:

I told another Disney story with the Our Story Matters collection:

I hope this gives you something to think about the next time you come across a themed collection that you don’t think you can use.  Think outside the box and you’ll find that you can create beautiful layouts with almost any theme!
