How to Turn a 12x12 Sketch into a 12x24 Double Page Scrapbook Layout
Hey, hey, hey, scrappy people! Traci Here to show you how you can easily turn a single page sketch like this one I designed for the TRD Sketchy Sunday series into a stunning two page spread by just following a few simple steps to create symmetry!
Step 1: Flip the layout horizontally to mirror all the paper and photo layers across the page. This creates symmetry and keeps the structure of the sketch on both sides of the spread without repeating it exactly.
Step 2: Put the second half of your large title (now on the right side of the spread) BELOW your photos rather than above. By having the title span both pages, you’re creating cohesion across the spread but by placing it below the photos rather than above, you’re distributing the visual weight so that the spread isn’t too top heavy.
Step 3: You can either keep the same photo ratio on both sides (now with the 3x4 on the right outside edge and the 4x6 on the right inside edge for balance) or create three 3x4 spots on your new page to mix things up.
Step 4: Rather than mirroring your element placements, rotate the whole lot of them 180 degrees so that now when you place your embellishments, it creates a diagonal line across the whole spread, again pulling both pages together.
Now you have a balanced 12x24 spread—without losing the vibe you loved in the original!
Here is a side by side for comparison!
