Finding Your Voice: Scrapbooking the Issues with Celia
If you know me, you know that I’m not super into politics—mostly because of all the division it brings. But the I Voted collection has this refreshing mix of phrases and icons that promote unity and self-expression, which is right up my alley.
For my first page, I wanted to capture the mixed emotions I feel about politics, and I think I managed to convey that perfectly with the title. Using stickers from the collection, I “Frankensteined” together a title with various phrases and letters in red, white, and blue. Each phrase has a different font and color, which brings an extra sense of energy and liveliness to the page. By layering the title on top of a speech bubble from the ephemera pack, I created this feeling of a loud, expressive conversation—which, let’s face it, is what politics often feels like!
For my pocket page, I wanted to share where I stand on some key issues. I started with a filler card that simply says “Can we go back to precedented times?”—a question that makes me smile every time I look at it. For the journaling space, I chose a card with a little ballot box icon, which fits the theme perfectly. I plan to jot down my more detailed thoughts here later, but for now, it sets up the page’s focus beautifully. The use of icons like the ballot box keeps the whole thing playful and on theme without getting too serious.
On the bottom cards, I wanted to make my “Big Three Issues” really stand out. The collection includes this great journaling card with spots for three items, which gave me the perfect framework to visually break down my stances. Each issue got its own section, with space to add my personalized notes and beliefs, making it look like an actual ballot or list.
To finish it off, I added small letter stickers and handwritten notes about each issue. I wrote “The Economy” in the red space for my conservative stance, “Abortion” in blue for my liberal views, and “Marijuana Legalized” for my no-man’s-land feelings The combination of my handwriting and the letter stickers adds a layer of personalization that turns this layout from just a page into something that really feels like me. The colors and patriotic vibes from the I Voted collection help reinforce that, giving a cohesive, polished look that speaks to both personal beliefs and collective values.
Overall, this collection helped me express my thoughts in a way that felt balanced and respectful. It’s amazing how just a few thoughtful design choices can turn a scrapbook page into something much deeper—a true reflection of my own voice.
