December Daily 2022: Day 8

Hey, Hey! It’s December Daily Day 8 and today I’m creating a simple spread about my littlest always falling asleep by the light of the Christmas tree.

Day Eight

I found this kid asleep when I came down the stairs in the morning still asleep with his glasses on and it reminded me of a photo I have of him from 2020, so I wanted to tell the story through a lens of comparison, which I will be doing with a couple stories this year.

I printed the photo Traveler’s Notebook sized, because I knew the next story in my album would be using a traveler’s notebook insert I added that cute border to in my Stress-Free December Daily Prep Day 2 Video and the other side of the spread was the back of a 6x8 page, so those were the parameters I had to work with.

I knew I wanted to keep the page simple and focused on the photo, but once I had created the pocket for my journaling and added the sentiment card, I felt like something was missing, so I decided to actually add that photo from 2020 to the page using a card stock hinge that would open up that sentiment card.

On the other side, I added the countdown card from the All Is Calm collection that says December 20, using “20” as the year and not the day in this case.

The beauty really is in the details on this simple layout because I hand-stitched the border around the pocket, on the card, and the hearts on the photo.

I topped the whole thing off with this large number 8 and an acrylic heart from Color Cast Designs as well as some tiny iridescent snowflakes for bling! The overall effect is exactly what I was going for…calm, subtle, and sweet!
