How to Get Out of a Creative Rut During December Daily with Karidan

Happy December!!! What an exciting time of year but oh so exhausting right?? And I feel this is the time of year I get in such a rut or have such decision fatigue because there is just soooo much inspiration going around! Last year it got me good so there were several times I had to just sit down and figure out some things that would spark my creativity again or just get the juices going!

So, the easiest way for me to get going again is looking for embellishments, stickers, or elements in digital kits that I can REPEAT over and over! Elements that I can create a repetitive design with! And that is just what I did with the star element on my first layout about my son’s last Christmas Concert in my December Daily for 2019 that I am still working through! I took the star sticker into the silhouette program traced it and repeated it several times all over the layout so that I could layer pattern paper behind it on another layer to create dimension! You can see the whole process here in my process video!

In my second project, I created a cut file with the hearts in the kit! I love making cut files out of the elements in digital kits! I am always looking for 3x4 card elements or die cuts that I can turn into cut files! I again brought the heart stickers into silhouette program traced the outlines of the heart and then duplicated that shape x4 per line making sure that they touched so that I could weld them together within the program!

I then used a die from Elle’s studio to cut tabs to fit into the album this could easily been done with acrylic tabs or even just strips of card stock! Lastly, I used the outside of the cut file to cut a backer from vellum to back the cut file and turned this project into a transparent filler page for Day 12 of my December Daily for 2019! I loved how this turned out and it is a great break in the album!

The third project I made using the Festive kit was a VERY simple repetitive using tags from a 6x4 journaling card! Though Traci has included SOO many amazing tags I was looking for a simpler design without any sentiments so the 3 tags on this card were perfect! I used photoshop to extract them and then just layered them on a large photo that spanned across my full 14x8.25 spread! This is another great way to use elements out of a digital kit to get simple but very effective spreads during the month of December when all those creative juices just might not be flowing!
